KUCHING: The appointment of trainers and trainees can be approved once the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE) have discussed the matter with the Social Welfare Department (SWD).

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that the appointment of trainers and trainees should depend on the availability of staff at both centres.

“It’s important to understand that the community itself must initiate the CBR and PAWE. Building a community centre would be pointless if there isn’t a need for it,” Nancy said.

She also noted that while the trainers and trainees usually consist of parents, outsiders are welcome to participate in the community centre as well.

The next step is to have discussions with the welfare department, where they can assist in providing allowances for the trainers and trainees, she added.

Nancy said this during a press conference after visiting Sri Satok CBR and Sri Satok Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE) at Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani Welfare Centre in Kuching today (July 10).
