THE Transport Ministry is in the process of appointing consultants to carry out the federal funded Trans-Borneo Railway feasibility study.
Sarawak’s Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said these consultants will evaluate and determine the potential railway models for implementation in Sarawak and Sabah.
“The Ministry of Transport Sarawak represents the government of Sarawak on both the technical and steering committees, collaborating with the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, relevant federal agencies and statutory bodies, and the Sabah government to coordinate and oversee the study,” he said.
He said this in reply to Baru Bian (GPS-Ba’Kelalan) during the question-and-answer session on Wednesday (Nov 13).
Earlier, Baru asked if the Sarawak government is involved in discussions on the proposed Trans Borneo Railway and whether the state government is prepared to proceed with the construction of the railway if the federal government declines to fund it.
Dr Jerip said the financial models of the Trans Borneo Railway, which are part of the feasibility study scope, will be determined once the study is completed.
To a supplementary question, Baru asked how long the feasibility study will take to which Dr Jerip said the duration of the project is 12 months.
