KAPIT: A 26-year-old teacher, Trashie Anak Sabang was crowned Kumang Gawai Kapit 201 during the Pre Gawai Dayak Dinner Gala Kapit held at the Civic Centre here on Sunday evening.

She beat other nine finalists to claim the beauty queen title. With the victory, she brought home RM2,500 cash, a sash, a hamper, a trophy, a bouquet and a crown.

Meanwhile,  23-year-old Dayana Nora Anak Wong came second. She received   RM2,000 cash, a hamper, a trophy and a bouquet.

In third place was Shirley Adin, who received RM1,500 cash, a hamper, a bouquet and a trophy.

Recipient of the best dress and costume award was Cristie Sharon Lawas; she received RM300 cash and a trophy.

The seven other finalists were Vanessa Seri, Nina Karina, Emily Anak Leo, Beatrice Nagko, Shery Enya, Sherin Berinau and Cristie Sharon Lawas. Each of them received RM500 and a hamper from the organiser.

On hand to give away the prizes to the winners was Seriah Thomas, wife of the Pelagus State Assemblyman, Wilson Nyabong Ijang.

The panel of judges consisted of Jarit Jarmit as the chief judge and Sarawak Administrative Officers, Calvin Ligong and Bidah Lujah.

The Kumang Gawai contest was held in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak Dinner Gala Kapit 2018 which was organised by the Youth Wing of SDNU (Sarawak Dayak National Union) Kapit Branch.

Officiating at the function were the Bukit Goram State Assemblyman, Jefferson Jamit Unyat and the Pelagus State Assemblyman, Wilson Nyabong Ijang.

Also present was the Organising Chairman, Joseph Jinggut who was also the Chairman of SDNU Kapit, the patron of the Gawai Dinner.
