KUCHING: Following the news of the reopening of Malaysian borders, Sarawak is seeing an upsurge in hotel and flight bookings from international visitors, particularly from Indonesia.
Since March 22, this year, 79 percent of overseas visits to Malaysia have been booked through Traveloka Malaysia’s platform.
Traveloka Malaysia country manager Angelica Chan in a recent statement said the app has recorded a 38 per cent jump overall in hotel and flight bookings by international travellers into Malaysia.
“Our diverse blend of modernity, culture, traditions as well as nature may explain Malaysia’s attractiveness among regional travellers.
“The tourists primarily booked accommodations in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang, and Sarawak,” she said.
She added travellers who booked their accommodations through their travel super app, will also proceed to book at least one additional product and service from the app’s partners, such as car rental, tourist attraction tickets or spa packages, which is more apparent among travellers who remain in Malaysia for a month or longer.
While Traveloka is optimistic about the opportunities created by the pent-up travel demand, she noted that they would remain conscious of the current COVID-19 situation and has provided features for its users to stay up to date on the latest COVID-19 travel requirements as well as rescheduling options.
