KUCHING: Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd’s group chief executive officer Stephen Chin recently talked about “The way forward of sustainable waste management in Malaysia” during an online training series on sustainable landfill management and maintenance organised by the Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM).
The webinar was attended by more than 30 waste management industry members.
Bearing in mind that the management of solid waste in Malaysia is an important issue and has significant ramifications on the economy and the environment, the webinar aimed to provide an interdisciplinary forum for exchange of information and experiences by fellow industry members.
The training series also allowed participants to learn about various solid waste and recycling efforts and technologies across Malaysia, besides touching on the latest developments, legislation and other issues critical to managing solid waste, further providing insight and perspectives beneficial to those working in the field of environmental protection, recycling and waste management.
Other topics of the webinar were “Site suitability and assessment for an environmental impact assessment report” by Mazura Mazlan of TriEcoedge; “Landfill design and construction 101” by Zayrul Kama of Worldwide Landfills Sdn Bhd; “Leachate and LFG treatment” by Venoth Nedumcharian from SWM Environment Sdn Bhd and “Comparison and contrast of landfill and WtE” by Zamri Abdul Rahman of GreenTech Worldwide Holdings.
Established in 2005, WMAM is an association for waste management professionals.
A non-profit, technical and educational organisation and also a member of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), it aims to provide a platform to discuss all viewpoints related to waste management.
It also aims to establish and maintain contacts with local as well as international waste management related organisations.
It organises meetings, technical visits, trainings, courses, workshops and seminars on issues of waste management to promote the transfer of practical information and ideas on waste management for the benefit and welfare of its members besides encouraging collaboration and cooperation between all those interested and concerned with waste management.
