SIBU: Police here arrested three intoxicated locals believed to have caused property damages using a machete on Wednesday (May 25).

At around 5 pm, the police received a public complaint regarding three men who allegedly damaged the walls of a company building; one of them was said to be swinging a machete.

Acting on the information received, a police team consisting of a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit and a motorcycle patrol unit (URB) was despatched to the scene.

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, in a statement, said all three men were successfully apprehended although they were under the influence of alcohol and acted aggressively towards the police.

The team also seized the machete used by one of the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing damage through acts of mischief, and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive Substances, Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 for possessing a dangerous weapon in a public place

Zulkipli advised the public not to carry any type of dangerous weapon in public and not to get drunk in public places.
