KUCHING: Three state bodybuilders will be representing both Sarawak and Malaysia at two international bodybuilding championship.

Buda Ancah, Dr Malvern Abdullah and Awang Mohd Azizul Ghani will be participating in the 51st Asian Bodybuilding Championship in South Korea in September and followed by the 9th World Bodybuilding Championship in Mongolia in November.

Incentives of RM3,000 were given to each of them from the Sarawak State Sports Council (SSSC) as a morale booster.

“Of course, we expect them to win and nothing else. They are our pride because they will be bearing two flags, Malaysia and Sarawak at the world stage.

“Bodybuilding is not an easy form of sport. Although it has gained much popularity among the youngsters, it takes a lot of determination, commitment in following training schedules and a strict diet that complements it,” said Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Snowdan Lawan in a press conference prior to the handing over of the state flag to the three bodybuilders at Sarawak Stadium sunday.

Snowdan also announced an incentive of RM3,000 to the Sarawak Body Building Association (SBBA) for their hard work in grooming and producing bodybuilders who are able to represent Malaysia at international level competitions.

“Like any other sports, there are not short cuts to success in bodybuilding championships. Like the old saying goes, ‘No Pain, No Gain’.

“On top of these incentives, we are also subsidising and sponsoring sport attires to the bodybuilding team who are under 21 years old and hope that all these could further motivate our athletes to achieve their best in the coming events,” said Snowdan.

Meanwhile, 13 bodybuilders from the association will be taking part in the Mr.Malaysia Championship in Kuala Lumpur on May 19.

Also present were SSSC Director, Dr. Ong Kong Swee and the President of SBBA, Dato Wee Hong Seng.
