KUCHING: Three foreigners, including a woman, were sentenced to five months’ jail after they pleaded guilty to taking part in an illegal online gaming activity yesterday.
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered Adi Purwanto, 24, Sony Kurniawan, 27, and Nagarini, 20, all hailed from Indonesia, to undergo sentence after they pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
The court also ordered the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentences respectively.
The trio was arrested during a raid conducted by a task force team of Padawan district police headquarters at about 9pm at a premises at Jalan Batu Kawa here on November 7.
The team was said to have received a tip-off about an online gaming activity in the area.
Items seized included a handphone, a piece of paper with a sales list written on it, 16 pieces of paper money amounting to RM547, a user ID booklet and four hand held phones.
Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by lawyer Lim Lian Kee.
