DEMAK: Three people were injured in a fire that broke out on an empty oil tanker at a shipyard in Jalan Bako here.

Bomba operation commander (Zone 1 chief) PgKB l Henderi Ardimansyah said the 8.45am fire yesterday occurred during the welding and cleaning process of the tanker.

At the time of the incident, six workers were on board.

Suffering severe injuries was a 20-year-old man who was brought to Normah Hospital, while the second victim aged 48, who suffered injuries on his face, was brought to a Klinik Desa.

It was also reported that the tanker suffered 25 per cent structural damage in the fire.

Fifteen firefighters from Tabuan Jaya and 10 from Petra Jaya rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call.

Firefighters used water and foam to prevent the fire from spreading, and it was controlled around 10.10am while cooling and overhaul works were completed at 11am.
