KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here ordered three individuals to be remanded for two days to facilitate investigation into the alleged abuse of Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds.
The suspects, including the chairman of a village security and development committee (JKKK) in Serian Division, were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday (Oct 6).
They were charged with allegedly using RM50,000 from their village’s MRP funds as deposit for a hire purchase loan for a five-tonne lorry for themselves.
The suspects, who are related and aged 57, 57 and 27, are being investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for power abuse.
It carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the gratification value, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
