KUCHING: Three organisations have agreed to collaborate on human capital development and Al-driven technological solutions focused on space-related industries.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to put this into effect by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak Sdn Bhd (Centexs), and AngkasaX Innovation Sdn Bhd (Angkasa-X).
The MoU exchange took place at the two-day International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS 2024) held here from Oct 16-17.
SDEC was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sudarnoto Osman, while Centexs and Angkasa-X were represented by Chief Executive Officer Datuk Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman and Executive Chairman Dato Dr Sean Seah, respectively.
“SDEC will look into the possibility of establishing Satellite Ground Stations for satellite operation and the setting up of Assembly-integration-Testing (AIT) facilities for the development of Sarawak owned satellites for the provision remote-sensing and telecommunication services as part of the A-SEANSAT and A-SEANLINK Constellations,” SDRC said in a press release on Tuesday (Oct 22).
It will also look into the development of satellite applications and services through the Sarawak digital and innovation ecosystem.
“Meanwhile, Centexs’ collaboration focuses on human capital development, training and accreditation in space technology, rocket, satellite and related areas, including sharing or exchanging of information such as technical knowledge, professional experience, industry standards and best practices,”it said.
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (Al) into space and satellite technology will be the focus area for Angkasa-X.
Its joint venture with Centexs will centre on space tech talent specialising in satellite-engineering and space as well as research and development to develop a Sarawak/Borneo space economy.
Commenting on the significance of the MoU, Sudarnoto said the partnership represents a transformative leap, enhancing connectivity and contributing to a more interconnected Sarawak.
“The development of Sarawak owned satellites will further enable reliable communication in remote and underserved areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking.
“They will facilitate advancements in broadband services, ensuring seamless global communication and fostering innovation across various sectors,” he said.
