KUCHING: Trouble is brewing in Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (ASPIRASI) with president Lina Soo questioning the legitimacy of the new committee and lodging a police report.
The party held its high council annual general meeting yesterday (Feb 12) at 1pm at a local hotel to receive its annual financial report for 2022, in which it has to be submitted to Registrar of Societies Department (ROS).
The meeting was chaired by party chairman George Young Si Ricord Junior and during the meeting, Lina questioned if there was enough quorum to legitimise the meeting.
“Our meeting was then attended by at least one hundred unidentified members and I could only detect less than 20 of our members.
“When I questioned the legitimacy of the quorum, George then decided to cut me off and ordered me to get out of the meeting room,” Soo claimed during a press conference on the matter at Telang Usan Hotel in Kuching today (Feb 13).
She said safety concerns prompted her to leave the meeting room with treasurer general Hugh Lawrence Zehnder.
“I decided to make a police report after that because the meeting is illegal and unconstitutional, and I have notified the ROS in Kuching and Kuala Lumpur for further investigation.
“I wish to set the record straight so that our supporters and the public are aware of what is going on in ASPIRASI,” she added.
After they left the meeting room, she said the party continued the meeting without her and elected the new committee.
Soo clarified that she is still the president, as she was elected on Oct 10, 2021 to serve a five-year term from 2021 until 2026.
