MIRI: A truck driver was seriously injured after the vehicle he was driving went out of control and rammed into a roadside tree along the Miri-Bintulu road near Taman Awam here today.

His co-driver was slightly injured in the accident.

According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue department operations centre, nine firemen from Miri Central fire station along with its Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics were deployed to the scene upon responding to an alert received at 12.18pm.

The truck which was not carrying any cargo, was heading towards Bintulu from the city centre when the incident occurred.

Firemen used a hydraulic cutter and other emergency tools to rescue the lorry driver, aged 36, who was trapped in the wreckage.

The co-driver, aged 21, had earlier managed to free himself out from the wrecked vehicle.
