SIBU: The Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Services Station (BBP Sg. Merah) on Thursday received a report at 21:56:51 hours about an accident that occurred near Oya Camp at 14th Mile, Sibu-Bintulu Road.
BBP Sg. Merah immediately despatched two vehicles and nine personnel to the scene. They were led by PBK II Eddy Kilat.
Upon reaching the scene, the Operation Commander reported that a container truck was found lying on its side by the roadside.
It was reported that the truck driver was thrown out from the vehicle due to the accident impact. He was said to have bumped into the front of the vehicle. Firemen managed to get the victim out of the wreckage and handed him to medical personnel who came in an ambulance. After thorough checking by the medical personnel, the victim Tan Ah Chuan, 62, was pronounced dead due to head injuries. The remains were later handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 22:43:00 hours, according to information received from Pusat Gerakan Operasi Bomba Sarawak yesterday.
