KUCHING: Former Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak volleyball player Stanley Kung credits his team’s chemistry for helping Swinburne Sarawak secure the volleyball title.

Kung scored the winning point in the third set, sealing a hard-fought victory over tough opponents SIDMA College Sarawak.

Swinburne University Sarawak staged a late comeback to win 2-1 against SIDMA College Sarawak in a thrilling final.

“I think everything went well.

“My teammates gave me the confidence to perform, and I’m happy with how it went,” he told

Sarawak Tribune at Stadium Datuk Kawada in the Samajaya Industrial Zone yesterday.

Kung, a 22-year-old wing spiker from Sibu, is currently a second year studying civil engineering student.

A former SUKMA 2022 volleyball player, he credited his teammate Nigel Dom Joseph Iran, a 23-year-old centre who is currently a final year Human Resources student, for an excellent assist.

“I told Nigel to be confident. If we go for the first ball, I’ll get it, and I can ace it.

“I appreciated him for trusting me. I didn’t want to disappoint him, so I made sure to seize the opportunity,” he said.

Whether it was sitting on the side-line or playing on the court, Kung was vocal, and his powerful shots left the opposition fearing his presence.

“I told the team to stay focused on defence and communication.

“Keep talking and say, ‘This ball is mine’.

“It’s all about teamwork. We are Swinburne, and thanks to God, we did it,” he exclaimed.
