KUCHING: An appreciation day was held for 382 taska (pre-school) and 64 tabika (kindergarten) pupils of Taska and Tabika Kemas (Community Development Department) Simunjan District at Penview Convention Centre (PCC), Jalan Demak yesterday.
Kemas Sarawak deputy director Fatimah Rosli said Tabika Kemas was even recognised by Reader’s Digest Malaysia as a trusted brand by parents in 2017.
According to her, 75 per cent of Taska and Tabika Kemas’ teachers have a diploma or higher qualification, and the aim now is to ensure all the teachers must at least graduate with a diploma.
She added Kemas’ education syllabus is based on the STREAM model, which includes science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and mathematics.
“With that, Sarawak Kemas has chosen the ‘oil and gas’ theme and the pilot project for this will be Tabika Kemas Taman Sepakat Jaya Kuching which will be fully utilising the module by 2020,” she said.
She said the project is a collaboration between Kemas and its strategic partners such as Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Petronas, Petrosains and teaching institutions.
“In 2018, Kemas introduced the Tabika Transit where children can stay at the tabika in the afternoon to accommodate parents who are working,” she pointed out.
She highlighted that to date, there are four Tabika Transits in Sarawak — Kuching, Samarahan, Miri and Marudi.
In addition, Fatimah said Kemas has been improving its services especially in its academic achievements, which the children will be evaluated based on the 3Ms (reading, writing and counting).
