IF you want to squeeze more battery life out of your phone, turn off your wi-fi when you leave the house. Otherwise your smartphone will keep looking for wi-fi hotspots when you’re out and about, draining the battery.
Bluetooth, NFC and GPS are also power-hungry and, if you don’t constantly need them, can be turned off when not in use to save power. The smartphone’s display is the numberone energy consumer so you should activate the automatic brightness control.
Even with that switched on, it pays to turn down the brightness if you think the screen is brighter than it needs to be. If you have an OLED screen you can activate dark mode, which uses less power as the dark areas of the display don’t need to be illuminated.
Even when apps aren’t being used they draw power for background activities so it’s worth looking at the battery statistics in Android and iOS. If you see an app that’s a power hog you can choose to disable or uninstall it — provided you don’t need it. – dpa
