KUALA LUMPUR: Continental status team, Terengganu cycling team (TSG), targets being in the top three at the Asian Tour this year, after achieving fourth place last year.
Its chief operations officer, Nasiruddin Wan Idrus said the top three target among 113 teams contesting was arrived at after evaluating the team performance last season.
“The target is also feasible as TSG has retained almost all last season’s cyclists including experienced racers such as siblings Mohd Zamri and Mohd Hariff Saleh and Nur Amirul Fakhruddin Mazuki,” he told Bernama.
He said the TSG squad had started centralised training on Saturday with 14 cyclists after going to the national capital from Kuala Terengganu, before starting this season with a UCI 2.2 status race (International Cycling Union) 2019 Ronda Pilipinas on Feb 8-12.
“They will undergo training in Kuala Lumpur for two weeks before returning to Kuala Terengganu for the launching of the team at the end of the month. We are waiting for the confirmations of the dates from the organisers of Le Tour de Filipinas and Tour de Indonesia before confirming participations.
“We have not received any news on the organisation of the 2019 LTdL, but we are always prepared because it is the race we are focusing on. TSG also received the recognitions of the European and African Tours when invited to participate in Tour Bohemia in the Czech Republic in August and Tour du Rwanda in October,” he added. – Bernama
