KUALA LUMPUR: The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Iskandariah yesterday visited the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (HRC), the largest rehabilitation hospital in Southeast Asia.

Her Majesty’s arrival was welcomed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and HRC residents who were excited to meet the Raja Permaisuri Agong who is known for her friendly and motherly nature.

Also present to welcome Tunku Azizah’s arrival were Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa who chairs the special committee on the Installation Ceremony of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and HRC director Dr Roslan Johari Mohd Ghazali.

Tunku Azizah’s visit was part of a programme organised in conjunction with the installation of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mutafa Billah Shah as head of state, which was held on Tuesday.

Tunku Azizah’s deep concern and motherly nature were clearly on display when she interacted with young patients at the hospital’s Paediatric and the Rehabilitation Technology units.

Her Majesty spent about half an hour at the paediatric unit where was entertained by the children’s antics.
Earlier, she was entertained by a musical performance by 11 children at the hospital’s auditorium.
During the visit, Tunku Azizah also presented a RM30,000 contribution to HRC to assist with its operations.

The HRC, began operational on April 26, 2012, was designed to serve as a referral centre for both public and private hospitals in the field of intensive rehabilitation treatments.

A total of 70,783 patients received treatment at the hospital last year, comprising 49.6 percent of adult patients, senior (31.5 percent) and the rest were paediatric patients.

HRC provides seven rehabilitation treatments, namely, in neurological, spinal, cardiac, acquired brain injury, paediatric, geriatric and musculoskeletal.

The hospital also provides therapy services for, among others, limb rehabilitation therapy, occupational rehabilitation, speech and hearing recovery therapy. – Bernama
