The avocado is a fickle fruit. It’ll sit around on the counter for ages, hard as a rock, until the moment it softens, from when you have approximately five minutes before it will go bad.
Five minutes might be an exaggeration, but still, the timing with avocados can be tricky.
For all you avocado lovers out there, there is an easy way around this conundrum if you happen to have a microwave around.
Just cut the avocado in half, remove the seed and stick one of the halves in the microwave at a low level (90 watts) for 3 to 5 minutes. Let cool, and then the avocado should be soft as butter. – dpa
