KUCHING: Gay sex among tertiary students that is reportedly commonplace in the country can be stopped if students adhere to religious teachings.

In stating this the Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) said there was a need to actively train volunteers from universities and other centres of higher learning to continue efforts to produce students who are morally upright.

Its president Zulkiflee Sebli said the government also needs to hold more roadshow programmes at institutes of higher learning to explain the dangers of engaging in gay sex.

“Even at the primary school level, students have been exposed to the sex education syllabus.

“A lot has been invested by the government through the Ministry of Education to expose the dangers of such practices, especially sodomy that is clearly beyond human nature.

“Although Sarawak has no official statistics, we as responsible citizens should come together and work to develop pupils who are extremely strong in terms of their beliefs and emotions,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune on Today (Sept 19).

Towards this end he said no religion in the world condones the practice of premarital sex, free sex and gay sex.

His remarks followed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) Women Chief Dr Daroyah Alwi’s demand that the Ministry of Higher Education look into the prevalence of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) cases among tertiary students in Malaysia arising from same sex relationships.

Students who have strong faith and emotions, Zulkiflee said can definitely contribute to an ethical, noble, righteous and virtuous human capital development.
