MUKAH: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) is committed in turning rural areas within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) into flourishing economic hubs, with sustainable and smart agriculture.
The “SCORE – Integrated Agropark with Dynamic Modern Farming” in Igan, Mukah Division, is currently in the early phases of construction.
This RM20-million initiative aims to transform agricultural practices in the area and boost both agrotourism and eco-tourism.
During a site visit to the Agropark, RECODA’s chief executive officer, Datuk Ismawi Ismuni said the 260-acre project is currently at the early stage of construction, with a focus on developing 30 acres in the first phase.
“We are focusing on the first phase of construction, which includes building the access road, basic infrastructure, and essential buildings, as well as developing collection and processing facilities,” he said.
Federal funded under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025), the Agropark is projected for completion by 2026.
“Upon its completion, the Agropark is expected to offer visitors an enriching experience, featuring insights into local farming practices and agriculture-based attractions like farmers’ markets, enhancing the overall appeal of the area,” he said.
He also emphasised that RECODA’s mission is to attract investment, create jobs, and foster economic growth within the SCORE region.
“This project is aligned with our goal of economic and socio-economic development, creating entrepreneurial opportunities and generating income for the local community,” he said.
