KUCHING: The idea of having its own television station in Sarawak as proposed by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is a farsighted move that Sarawakians happily welcome.
PRS Women chief Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie (pic) who is also political secretary to the Chief Minister in saying so also said communication is a vital need for everyone.
Television is considered a vast media for communication and information dissemination, she added.
“It will be an excellent tool to enhance communication and information dissemination in Sarawak. Its people would be able to enjoy and benefit from more focused and designated programmes whilst it also creates opportunities to introduce the Land of Hornbills to the world.
“The state is known for its tourist attractions, arts, culture and traditions including cuisines, colourful plural society, flora, fauna including fruits and jungle produce, to name a few. This will also aid our tourism industry and further boost our Sarawak’s economy,” she added.
Doris added that the geographical terrain in Sarawak is very challenging, but with strong political will, well researched programme, noble intention and driven by a people-centric leader and government, I believe every dweller of Sarawak soil including those in the interior could benefit from this initiative.
“When this materialises, GPS government in Sarawak is also able to create job opportunities, tap local brains and talents to boost the industry. As I see it, CM is making the right move to adopt self-sufficiency and no dependency approach.
“GPS is a responsible government with the prime agenda of accelerating, elevating and driving Sarawak forward. We cannot be chained by unproductive and regressing mentality; we need to take it upon ourselves to move forward and be better,” Doris added.
She said it is a very apt utterance by our late Tok Nan that Sarawak is our land and we are Sarawakians thus we cannot let others or foreigners decide our fate and future.
Now the GPS government in Sarawak led by Abang Johari is walking the talk and as true blue Sarawakians, we must synchronise our support and soar high together like a hornbill. What is good for Sarawak is good for Sarawakians, she added.
