KUCHING: Sarawak’s very own television station, TVS, has thus far managed to reach as many as nine million audiences.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the good news was being informed by Sarawak Media Group (SMG) chairman Datuk Norhyati Mohd Ismail.
“According to Norhyati, a survey was done on the television coverage recently, which showed that TVS has nine million audiences.
“Sarawak’s population is just 2.8 million, but through Astro, it (TVS) manage to attract audiences from West Malaysia as well as our neighbouring countries including Indonesia,” he said this when officiating the DUBS Miri Branch’s 14th General Meeting for 2021-2024 Session at Eastwood Golf and Country Club in Miri today.
Abang Johari said TVS had an agreement with foreign television stations and it would be good if the state-owned television station can produce quality telemovies, which can then be aired on television stations in other countries, such as Thailand.
“Furthermore, if our youth has the natural talent, then they can be popular,” he said.
Apart from that, the Chief Minister said, through the establishment of TVS, the performing arts industry in the state was further boosted.
He said talent development in the various fields was also one of the areas which Sarawak would be focusing on under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).
“After the 12th Sarawak election, I also formed several ministries including the Education, Innovation and Talent Development Ministry and Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Ministry to identify, develop local talents in the creative industry.
“These are some of the potential areas and fields as it encourages arts, creative, or cultural entrepreneurship as well,” he added.
