Two arrested for drug possession, distribution in Miri

BINTULU: Police have detained two local man for distributing and possessing drugs.

According to Bintulu district police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit, both suspect, age 27 and 29 respectively, were arrested on Tuesday (Sept 13) at Jalan Bintulu/Samalaju.

He said the police also found one transparent plastic packet believed to be methamphetamine weighing rough 32 grams.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for the possession of drugs.

“If convicted, they will face imprisonment for not less than five years or in prison for life with mandatory less than 10 canning,” he said.

The arrest was in line with the police’s efforts to prevent the issue of drug and substance abuse activities as well as any criminal activities in Bintulu.

Batholomew advised members of the public to inform the police of any criminal or drug activities happening in the district.
