KUCHING: Two individuals, believed to be pickpockets, were arrested by members of the public on Monday.
The incident took place at the Kota Sentosa Ramadan Bazaar at around 4.30pm when a hospital cleaner spotted a man stealing a wallet from an elderly man who was purchasing some food from a stall operator.
While she was telling her husband about the man’s act, she felt somebody touching her handbag from behind. She immediately turned and saw a woman walking away with her purse.
Upon being alerted by his wife, the victim’s husband sought help from several members of the public to apprehend both suspects.
The suspects, aged 51 and 47, from Jalan Parit Lama, Satok and Kpg Semariang Lama, were handed over to the police who brought them to Kota Sentosa Police Station for questioning.
Kuching Police District chief, ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai confirmed the arrests.
Meanwhile, a woman in her 40s was found dead at a rented house at Jalan Nanas Barat here on Monday evening.
The woman, believed to be from Sibu, was found dead in her room at around 7.00pm by her housemates who alerted the police.
The body was later taken to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post mortem.
The victim’s identity was not known at press time. Police have classified the case as sudden death pending the outcome of the post mortem.
