KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 deaths along with 2,285 positive cases today, an increase against yesterday’s cases of 2,028. The majority of the cases were classified as mild.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said with the additional casualties, this brings the death toll to 526.
It said the first death case was of a 81-year-old woman from Kuching who had comorbidity of high blood pressure and diabetes.
The case tested positive on Aug 30 and passed away at Sarawak General Hospital.
It said the second death involved a man aged 60 from Kapit who had high blood pressure and dyslipidaemia.
The case tested positive on Aug 16 and passed away at Kapit Hospital.
Meanwhile, of the total 2,285 Covid-19 cases, a total of 2,275 cases or 99.56 percent were classified as Category 1 and 2, while two cases were classified as Category 3, four cases (Category 4) and four (Category 5).
Kuching district recorded the highest with 1,129 cases, followed by Bau (228) and Serian (113).
SDMC said Lundu reported 93 cases; Samarahan (81); Bintulu (76); Sibu (71); Mukah (61); Simunjan (60); Subis (59); Miri (54); Limbang (41); Song (34); Tebedu (32); Pusa (21); Tatau (20); Betong (16); Sri Aman (15); and Kapit (13).
The districts of Asajaya and Lubok Antu recorded 10 cases each; Bukit Mabong (eight); Sarikei, Belaga, and Selangau (seven each); Beluru (five), Kanowit (four); Dalat (three); and Matu (two).
It added the districts of Meradong, Lawas, Julau, Pakan, and Sebauh each recorded single-digit cases.
SDMC said 1,753 of the new cases consisted of individuals who were in close contacts with Covid-19 positive cases.
There were also 100 cases involving individuals in existing clusters, 248 cases from the screening of symptomatic individuals in health facilities, 182 cases from other screening in health facilities and two cases were Import B cases (those returning from other states), the committee said.
On the bright side, there were no new Covid-19 clusters, at the same there was also no declaration of an end to any clusters.
At present, there are still 131 active clusters in Sarawak.
Today, the Jero Gelasah Cluster saw an increase of 35 cases, followed by 22 cases in the Bungey 2 Cluster; Kaman Cluster (12); Long Urun Cluster (six); Belinggai Ulu Niah Cluster (six); Kampung Simpok Cluster (four); KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster (four); Ladang 0004 Kuala Baram Cluster (three) and Ladang Hijau 01 Cluster (two).
In addition, the Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster, Opar Cluster, Mundai Cluster, and Sungai Ringin Cluster each saw an increase in one additional case today.
