KUCHING: The People Ideas Culture (PIC) Consultancy will be holding two programmes in Perak this April, in conjunction with the International Day of Monuments and Sites.
The first programme which is a talk on “Rural Landscape Heritage in Hong Kong” will take place this coming April 20 at the Brownstone Hostel in Ipoh.
In collaboration with Contemplate Culture from Hong Kong, the talk is organised to introduce two selected rural landscape heritage in Hong Kong and explore how the rural communities there have evolved over time, as well as their current rural-urban management issues in modern days.
The talk will feature two panellists from Contemplate Culture namely cultural heritage manager and curator Anna Yau and architectural heritage conservationist Candy Law.
Meanwhile, the second programme which is a workshop on “Exploring Rural Capitals: Cultural Mapping by Communities” will take place on April 21 at the basketball court of Kopisan Baru in Gopeng.
According to PIC Consultancy founder Kenneth Wong See Huat, cultural mapping has been identified by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) as a useful tool to identify and record disappearing intangible values of a place and its community.
Guided by experienced instructors, participants will be able to create a neighbourhood map, and explore how cultural and social capitals recorded in the map could be utilised and contribute to achieving sustainable living.
The coming programmes received praise and support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture which is in line with the ministry’s efforts to enliven artistic and cultural activities.
