KUCHING: The two-day event organised by The Generations was a success as visitors from West Malaysia, Indonesia, United States of America and Egypt were all thronging in Old Courthouse and Padang Merdeka.
Known as Creatively Unique (CU) Sarawak event, it was held on Saturday (Feb 18) and closed yesterday. It commenced with its one-of-a-kind SWAK: Street Fashion Show and a concurrent Artisanal Food Street.
It managed to attract 8,000 visitors, where the fashion show saw a full house attendance selling out all of its 270 tickets.
According to Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the event was true to its purpose of empowering youth which featured 15 newly-debuted designers, of who three were from Indonesia, plus 32 adult models and 12 children models who were locally scouted.
“This was their opportunity to present all their exclusive works to a public audience.
“It obtained support from Sarawak Tourism Ministry, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), UNESCO Kuching City of Gastronomy, Cultural Heritage Arts Society Sarawak (CHASS), and Rotary Club Urban Kuching.
“This international event ignited intergenerational conversations with the global audience on how we can collectively empower youth through community and talent development,” the minister said during a press conference in Creatively Unique (CU) Sarawak 2023 held at the Padang Merdeka yesterday.
Abdul Karim also visited the surrounding food stalls in Padang Merdeka, trying on the different items sold and displayed at the Artisanal Food Street.
The CU Sarawak event was not only about Artisan Food Street at Padang Merdeka where 73 registered as participants but also the UCCN Gastronomy Gallery showcasing the history of unique Sarawak cuisines at the Old Court House happening from 10 am-10 pm from Saturday (Feb 18) till yesterday.
