KUCHING: Two local men were detained after being busted for illegal logging activities.
They were caught in a raid by the 10th Battalion General Operation Forces (GOF) on Tuesday (Nov 17).
GOF state commander SAC Mancha Ata stated that the raid codenamed “Ops Libas” was conducted at Jalan Bukit Engkrabai, Lubok Bemban in Mukah that was suspected for illegal logging activities.
“The team managed to seize a total of 80 logs of various sizes, three excavators, one lorry, one chainsaw, two water pumps and one power generator; all valued around RM 793,500.
“The confiscated items will be handed over to the Sibu Forest Department for further actions,” he said.
The case is being investigated under the Section 96 of the Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015.
Additionally, Mancha said the GOF recorded a total of 149 cases involving 412 arrests, comprising 182 locals and 230 illegal immigrants, with total seizures valued at RM35,917,417 in operations carried out from the beginning of the year until Nov 17.
