MIRI:   Two people died while six others were injured when a four-wheel drive Hilux and a Perodua Viva yesterday collided at Mile 14, Jalan Miri/Bintulu.

Lopeng Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a call about the accident which occurred near the Lambir Waterfall at around 4.45pm.

The operation commander said the four-wheel drive vehicle was heading towards Miri and while the Perodua Viva was heading towards Bintulu.

The firefighters arrived at the scene to find a seriously injured female passenger trapped in the Perodua Viva while two passengers (a male and a female), who were thrown out of the car during the collision, had died.

Four passengers (1 male, 3 female) in the Hilux and the Perodua Viva male driver survived the collision and sustained minor injuries.

The team of nine firefighters led by PBK II Peter Ngumbang managed to free the female passenger from the Perodua Viva. She was taken immediately to the hospital for further treatment by the EMRS unit.

The bodies of the dead passengers were handed over to the police for further actions.
