KUCHING: The relationship between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) could somehow be affected following PN’s decision to contest in the 15th general election (GE15).

“We need to remember that after the ‘Sheraton Move’, GPS was the kingmaker that enabled Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to become the prime minister,” according to political analyst Dr Lee Kuok Tiung.

Meanwhile, political analyst Prof James Chin said with PN contesting in Sarawak, it would not be an issue for the two coalition parties.

“The relationship between GPS and PN. There is no problem. What will happen is that the people will look at the results on Nov 19.

“Say PN is in line to form the best government, so GPS will just negotiate with them (PN),” he said.

On Tuesday (Nov 8), Muhyiddin was reported as saying that there was only an agreement that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) would not contest in the previous state election, and not the parliamentary election.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at an event in Engkilili last Sunday (Nov 6) chided PN for not keeping its words to not contest in Sarawak in the GE15.

This GE15, PN is contesting in four seats, namely Saratok (Datuk Ali Biju), Lubok Antu (Jugah Muyang), Bintulu (Duke Janteng) and Batang Lupar (Hamdan Sani).
