KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined two Indonesian men RM10,000 each, in default three months in prison, for operating gambling machines.
Bayu Ardiansah, 32, and Dimas Maulana Nurkholib, 26, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to charges under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
Both men were charged with operating gambling machines using smartphones at a cafe in Jalan Padungan at around 1 pm on June 1.
According to the case facts, a D7 team from the Kuching Criminal Investigation Division (CID) raided the eatery on suspicion that it was involved in online gambling activities.
This resulted in the arrest of Bayu and Dimas and the seizure of two smartphones and cash amounting to RM300, believed to be used for the gambling activities.
The items were then sent for analysis, and a gambling expert confirmed that the items were used as online gambling machines.
ASP Arman Ibrahim and Inspector Marylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case, while the men were unrepresented by counsel.
