BINTULU: Narcotic police here arrested two more foreign men suspected to be drug dealers after they had in their possession drugs believed to be syabu in cigarette boxes.

Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit said the arrests were carried out during an operation codenamed ‘Op Tapis Khas’ at Segawan Bridge along Jalan Sebauh-Pandan on Wednesday (Jan 18).

The suspects, aged 28 and 43, had a total of 12 straw tubes and two plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 21.6g – all inside cigarette boxes.

“Both suspects, who were tested positive for drugs, will be investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Aside from narcotic offences, they will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having valid travel documents,” he said.

Batholomew said the arrests are part of the police’s effort to overcome substance abuse in addition to preventing crime activities in the district.
