SIBU: Two local men were detained during Ops Mabuk at Jalan Channel here last night (June 16) for pertaining to driving or operating a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration exceeding the prescribed limit.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspects, aged 25 and 40, were arrested under Section 45A(I) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“The operation, which took place from 10pm until 1.30am, was carried out by a team of police from the Sibu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.

“During the operation, various offences and summonses were issued, including modifications to exhaust systems, registration number violations, and failure to wear seat belts,” he said in a press statement today (June 17).

In the meantime, Zulkipli advised the public to abide by traffic laws.

“The public is advised not to drive under the influence of alcohol to ensure their safety and the safety of others,” he stressed.
