MIRI: Two men were arrested for possessing drugs in Kampung Bungai, Bekenu last Saturday (Sept 18).
Acting on information, a police team raided a hut at 10.45pm at the said location and detained the suspects for inspection.
The team managed to find 105 pieces of straw tubes containing crystalline substance, believed to be methamphetamine, inside a plastic packet.
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, who confirmed the case, said the drugs, weighing 37g, was valued at RM3,700.
“The suspects, aged 21 and 31, and the seized items were taken to Miri police headquarters for further action.
“Background checks found that one of them has a past record related to drugs. Both men also tested positive for drugs,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 39A (2) of the same Act, which provides for life imprisonment or a jail term of less than five years and up to 10 lashes of whipping.
