KUCHING: A fire erupted at Lorong Bangau 2, Kampung Semerah Padi today night (Nov 1) destroying two houses, leaving 15 residents homeless.
The emergency call was received at 12.12 am, and Bomba teams from the Petra Jaya and Padungan stations arrived within five minutes to tackle the blaze.
Firefighters used a 200-foot hose with two nozzles, sourcing water from a nearby hydrant, while the Padungan unit deployed additional water streams from its pumper to extinguish the fire completely.
The fire engulfed two homes—one semi-permanent and another one a permanent structure within a 30×60 square foot lot. The firefighters sprayed water on fire by 12.25 am and extinguished it by 2.26 am. Fortunately, there were no casualties as all residents managed to evacuate safely.
The fire affected two homes that housed 15 residents, including a household with 13 members in a double storey, semi-permanent structure and a two-member household in a partially permanent home.
After confirming the site was secure, the firemen returned to their stations. The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are under investigation.
