KUCHING: Two houses were razed to the ground in separate locations yesterday.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the blaze occurred at Kampung Beradik Hilir and Taman Malihah.
The first incident in Kampung Beradik Hilir happened around 8.10 am and firemen from the Tabuan Jaya station had to use a boat to reach the scene.
By the time they arrived, there was nothing much the firefighters could do as the fire was at its height.
The house belonged to a 60-year-old man who was not present during the incident.
Meanwhile, the second incident at Taman Malihah occurred around 5.50 pm and firemen from the Petra Jaya station were promptly deployed to the scene.
The double-storey house was already destroyed by the blaze by the time Bomba personnel arrived. Only the kitchen area which was separate from the building could be saved.
The house was empty and unoccupied.
The cause of both fires is still under investigation.
