KUCHING: Two Covid-19 positive cases were detected in Sarawak on Wednesday (Nov 25), bringing the total number of positive cases to 1,064.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said both cases, categorised as imported cases, were reported in Limbang.
The two cases were detected through screening of individuals returning from Covid-19 high risk areas, namely from the Federal Territory of Labuan.
“Cases 1,063 and 1,064 are both Labuan Matriculation College students and have been allowed to return to their hometown after the college was ordered to close.
“Prior to departure, they underwent RTK Antigen testing and were found to be non-reactive for Covid-19,” said SDMC in a statement on Monday (Nov 30).
The committee said both cases then returned to Limbang by an express boat from Labuan via the Limbang Customs Pier.
“They were then admitted to a quarantine centre to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine. RT-PCR screening on Nov 23 found both cases to be Covid-19 positive,” it said.
SDMC added that there were also no additional cases to the six existing active clusters in Sarawak.
The committee revealed two newly recovered cases had been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“This brings the cumulative total of recovered and discharged cases to 1,022 or 96.05 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak.”
It added that 23 Covid-19 patients were currently receiving treatments at isolation wards in hospitals, namely, 18 at SGH, three at Miri Hospital and two at Sibu Hospital.
Three new persons under investigation (PUIs) were reported while no one was awaiting laboratory test result.
SDMC added that Kuching and Miri continued to remain as Covid-19 yellow zones with a total of 12 and two locally transmitted cases reported in the districts in the past 14 days.
