KUCHING: Pressured by many requests from the public to increase the number of people traveling in a car, the government yesterday decided to relax the previous restriction of one-person-per-car ruling.
At a press conference in Putrajaya yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that two people could now travel together in a vehicle during the fourth phase of the movement control order (MCO).
“We allow two people in a car but they must be staying under the same roof and are also immediate family members,” said Ismail.
Wan Muhammad Afiq Wan Kamar, 29
“The new ruling is good for people who need to be accompanied when going to a bank or clinic. But I hope people would not take advantage of this relaxation so as not to worsen the Covid-19 crisis.”
Nur Nadhirah Johari, 23
“I agree to the ruling for green zones only. For me, the ruling is suitable for pregnant women, the sick and those with important matters to deal with.”
Ejal Linting
“The new ruling is good for senior citizens, the disabled, chronically ill people, pregnant women, and anyone who needs to be accompanied to manage their affairs. The rest should keep staying at home.”
Kalthoum Adni, 42
“The public should not take advantage of the change in ruling. Two people can travel together in a vehicle if they really have urgent matters to attend to.”
