Two Indonesian women jailed for engaging in prostitution

KUCHING: Two Indonesian women were each sentenced to four months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today, for engaging in prostitution by offering sex services at a budget hotel in Jalan Rock, last Sunday.

Nurhasanah, 31, and Juwita, 21, each pleaded guilty to one charge which was read separately by two magistrates, namely Zaiton Anuar and Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the two charge sheets, on June 11, at around 11.26 pm and 11.35 pm in different budget hotel rooms at Jalan Rock, the two of them were engaged in prostitution.

For that offence, they can be sentenced to imprisonment not exceeding one year in default a fine or both, if convicted.

The court ordered both of them to serve their sentences starting from the date of their arrest on June 11.

According to the facts of the case, a police team conducted an inspection at the budget hotel involved because it was believed to offer sex services.

During the inspection, the police managed to arrest two foreign women and two men who were undercover members in a different hotel room.

The police also seized several condoms and cash amounting to RM300.

The prosecution of the case was handled by two different prosecuting officers, namely Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang and Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the two accused were not represented by lawyers.
