SRI AMAN: An express bus commuting from Miri to Kuching crashed into a ditch along KM25, Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching this morning (June 29), causing a female passenger and a second driver to be rushed to Sri Aman Hospital.
Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu who confirmed the case, said they received an emergency call around 6.40am pertaining to the accident.
Investigations found that the bus was transporting six passengers consisting of two local women, two Indonesian men and two Indonesian women to Kuching.
“The accident happened around 5.30am when the 56-year-old bus driver failed to control the vehicle and crashed into the concrete road barrier before it (the bus) crash and landed on its side in the ditch.
“As a result, a 34-year-old passenger and a 43-year-old second driver sustained minor injuries.
“They were rushed to Sri Aman Hospital to receive treatment,” he said.
He noted that the other passengers — a local woman aged 45 and four Indonesians aged between 21 and 30, survived the crash without sustaining any injuries.
Alexson noted that the foreigners have valid travel permits and wanted to return to their country of origin via the Tebedu and Biawak entry points.
The case is still being investigated under Rule 10 LN 166/59.
