KUCHING: Members of the public here think there is no need for four family members to go out in a private car during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) even though the federal government allows it.
They say it is enough just for two family members to go out together to buy necessities or seek medical services during the CMCO.
“Is it necessary for four family members to go out to do these things?” they ask.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has said there are no issues with maintaining social distancing for those from the same house as they are staying together.
Yesterday, State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that the state would follow the federal government’s decision since it had been gazetted as the law.
New Sarawak Tribune reached out to Sarawakians to get their views on the subject. Many are of the opinion that the prime minister’s decision to relax the MCO is a mistake.
Halinda Aishah, kindergarten teacher
‘It is an absurd decision made by the federal government as there is no excuse to allow four family members to travel in one car. I believe two is already enough.’
Muhammad Ramzi Shah, admin executive
‘This relaxation of MCO puts everyone’s life in danger. It is increasing everyone’s risk to Covid-19.’
Hazirah Abu Bakar, entrepreneur
‘It is enough for two family members to travel in one car. Allowing more people to travel will put to waste the efforts made by our frontliners who are on duty to ensure the safety of the public.’
Suria Ibrahim, college tutor
‘The federal government made the decision too fast. It should have studied the consequences first instead of listening to unnecessary outcry by irresponsible people.’
Nur Ivy Eena, sales executive
‘It is literally a call for forming a new coronavirus cluster and risking everyone’s life including extending the number of contact-tracing in future.’
Willimena Catherine, customer service staff
‘It was a bad decision from the start and people who like the idea are those who refuse to abide with the MCO. I pity our frontliners and our ministers who always remind us to stay safe. Now, their efforts are going down the drain.’
