BETONG: Two individuals were killed on the spot after their car was suspected to have rear-ended a pickup truck near Lubok Antu junction today (May 4).

A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the deceased are the driver and the front passenger of the car, who are believed to be foreigners.

However, their identities were not made known and their bodies are taken to Betong Hospital for post-mortem.

Earlier, the department received an emergency call around 11.10 am regarding an accident and despatched firemen from Betong station to the scene, about 31km from the station.

On arrival, they found that the car had crashed by the roadside and the pickup truck landed on its side in the middle of the road.

It is understood that six individuals (including the deceased) were riding in the car while the pickup truck was driven by a man in his 60s.

The other four passengers were the backseat passengers of the car and they sustained injuries following the accident.
