BINTULU: Two workers were killed and two others injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in the Samalaju Industrial Park here on Monday (May 9).
The two workers who died in the blast were aged 34 and 35 while the injured aged 26 and 33 were rushed to the hospital here for treatment.
According to a news report from a Chinese daily here, the explosion was believed to have occurred around 3pm but the cause of the blast has yet to be determined.
No official statement has been made by the authorities as yet but a video recording of the incident has gone viral on social media since last night.
In the video footage, several medical personnel and policemen were seen covering one of the bodies before lifting it onto a truck.
Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit has confirmed receiving a police report lodged by the chemical plant concerning the incident around 9pm on Monday.
“Investigations are underway,” he told the New Sarawak Tribune on Tuesday.
