BINTULU: Police have arrested two locals for allegedly robbing a 24-hour convenience store with a machete last Friday (June 21).

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said that both men, aged 25 and 33, were picked up in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Cantas’ at two separate locations.

“During the arrests, police seized a machete, two helmets, two short-sleeved shirts and two pairs of jeans, which were believed to have been used by the suspects.

“Background checks found that both suspects had prior records for causing harm, threats and drug abuse,” he said in a statement.

Nixon added that the suspects will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment of up to 20 years, fines and lashes of the cane.

In light of this, police will not compromise with any crimes, especially robbery, as it is very dangerous and can threaten public order and safety.
