THE catching of one of the crocodiles in progress.

KUCHING: Two male crocodiles, measuring respectively 3.3 metres and 2.8 metres long, have been culled. They were caught in Sungai Rimbas, Pusa a few days by the Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), according to a SFC press statement issued yesterday.

“Our SWAT Team had, on October 17, 2017, installed 13 baited hooks along a 5 km stretch of Sg. Rimbas. The very next day, a big 4.8-metre croc was hooked and culled.

“Then, more recently, two more crocodiles were also caught. They were culled because of the relatively high density of crocodiles prevailing in that area. Given the successful culling exercise, operations at Sungai Rimbas have been called off on Sunday,” said the statement. SFC thanked all parties involved, particularly the police and local villagers for their assistance during the culling operation.

Members of the public are reminded to notify the nearest Forest Department or SFC offices of crocodile sightings in their areas and not take matters into their own hands as these reptiles are very dangerous.
