BINTULU: Two men were arrested for allegedly catching fish and shrimp using an electric shock devices around Sekutan, Sungai Batang Kemena near Sebauh last Friday.

Bintulu marine police commanding officer Ezuandi Bahadin said a patrol team was carrying out ‘Ops Benteng Covid-19’ in the area around 8pm when they spotted the two men.

Ezuandi said marine police had also received information and complaints from Sebauh Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), on the illegal fishing activities in the area.

“The team managed to seize several tools believed to be used for fishing and catching shrimp using electric shock devices.

“Among them include 18 and 30 horsepower outboard motors, batteries, ice barrels, several transformers, flashlight, plug, wooden sticks wrapped in electric wires, PVC sticks with spear-shaped ends and oil barrels,” he said.

The seized items including the fiber boats, valued at around RM32,000 and both men were handed over to the Agriculture Department (Inland Fisheries) for further actions.
