KUCHING: The Sarawak government will distribute two million face masks to Sarawakians.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that priority would be given to those at identified Covid-19 hotspots such as Kuching, Serian, Sarikei, Betong, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
“We have placed an order for two million masks which will arrive directly (from China), costing us more than RM3 million,” he told the press at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.
He said the masks, once they arrived within seven days, would be handed to the respective Resident’s Office and District Office by the State Disaster Management Committee for distribution.
When asked about the supply for hand sanitisers, Abang Johari said he would look into this but for the time being, he urged the public to maintain good hygiene and wash their hands with soap.
On another measure under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid Package, he said the state government would place urgent hospital needs and personal protection equipments (PPE).
“This includes acquiring personal protective equipment (PPE) and other supplies,” he said.
He said this would cost the state government RM10 million.
