KUCHING: Sarawak continue to dominate the petanque event, securing their second and third gold medals through the men’s and women’s singles categories.

Farid Amirul Muhammad from Sarawak B defeated his teammate Alif Zayd Zen (silver medal) from Sarawak A with a score of 13-6 in the final.

The hosts’ winning streak continued as Sharifah Daniamalyana Wan Deros from Sarawak 2 showcased an excellent performance, securing the gold medal by defeating Melaka’s Saidatul Ummairah Md Dani (silver medal) with a score of 12-6 in the final.

The winning medals were presented by Daro assemblyman and assistant chef de mission for petanque, Safiee Ahmad.

The event, held at Arena Petanque Sarawak on Monday (Aug 19), also saw Terengganu B winning the bronze medal in the men’s singles.

In the women’s singles, the bronze medal was won by Perak 1’s representative, Athirah Sareh.

For the record, the petanque event has contributed three gold medals so far, with the first gold bagged by Dayang Nurulnuhaa Fasihah Abang Misbahhuddin in the women’s shooting mat event on Sunday (Aug 18).
